Justin Timberlake Celebrates Career Best Album Figures; Could He Break 1 Million In The US?
Justin Timberlake is back on top of the pop world again, with his first album in seven years smashing into the top of the UK album charts, and expected to do much the same when the Billboard charts reveal their own US album list later this week.
Billboard reports that The 20/20 Experience was the fastest-selling title of the year when debuting at number one in the UK yesterday, notching up sales of around 106,000 copies in its first week, pushing David Bowie’s own comeback The Next Day down to second spot (it sold 35,000 copies after selling 91,000 the previous week.)
It’s the most successful first week on the UK albums chart Timberlake’s ever had, and it barnstorming success looks set to roll over back to his native America.
Billboard say that experts are predicting that Timberlake is a runaway shoe-in for the top spot when the album charts for America are released on Wednesday (March 27, 2013) and are claiming it could sell as many as 950,000 to 975,000 copies. That would make it the fastest selling US album since Taylor Swift’s Red last year, and if it was to surpass the predictions and breach 1 million copies sold it would become the first to do so since Swift’s Autumn 2012 effort, and just the 19th since 1991, when SoundScan started tracking sales. We never doubted you for an instant, Justin.
