With Mad Men returning to AMC on April 7, it's time once again to obsess over Christina Hendricks. Fortunately, she made it easy for us this year by gracing the cover of May's Flare magazine.
Though it's always a pleasure to read Hendricks talking about her hit AMC series and upcoming projects, the best part of the Flare interview came when she opened up about the summer job she took between Seasons 1 and 2 of Mad Men. Unlike most actors, Hendricks didn't take the job because she needed to make ends meet. No, she did it just because she felt like it.
“I always wanted to be a florist,” Hendricks admits. “In fact, after the first season of Mad Men, I worked at a florist. We had to wait a year to shoot because Matthew Weiner was finishing The Sopranos. And all these actors that I’d worked with would come in and say, ‘Oh... Everything okay?’ And I said ‘No! I’ve just always wanted to work at a florist.’ And they would say, ‘Okay, can you help me pick out a bouquet?’ And I’d be like, ‘I’ll make you one!’ I’ve always been pretty good at it."
Just when we thought we couldn't love Hendricks any more, she ups the adorable ante. It's nice to know that she has a soft side even though she's best known for playing the tough-as-nails Joan Harris. Also, we just like the idea of walking into a flower shop and having Christina freaking Hendricks make us a bouquet simply because she enjoys flowers.
"I love a peony, I love a delphinium, I like garden-style flowers, less formal, I like something with a berry," Hendricks says of her favorite flower arrangements. "An English-garden kind of situation.”
Hendricks is far from the only person in Hollywood who ventured outside the realm of acting for a gig. Brad Pitt once dressed as a giant chicken for a job at El Pollo Loco, Amy Adams used to work at Hooters and Miley Cyrus once cleaned toilets. Check out a whole array of celebrities' crazy summer jobs here!
